Safety Tips for Holiday Shopping

    November 21, 2012 - Crimes of opportunity increase at this time of year due to the holiday season and carelessness from shoppers.

    The number of robberies, thefts, burglaries and types of fraud increase during this time of year.

    You have to take extra caution to protect yourself from thieves.

    It's important to remember a few tips when you're out shopping in crowded malls and when you leave to go to your car in a dark parking lot.

    Travel and shop with a companion, don't carry large amounts of cash, don't carry PIN numbers on you, travel in well-lit areas, don't leave valuables in plain view in your car, have key in car when approaching car and shop on secure websites.

    You should also make sure your house is lock as well as your vehicle.

    Police say to use common sense for a safe and happy holiday season.
