watch video
NOVEMBER 26, 2012Many people can be overwhelmed this time of year with baking, buying and decorating.

Officials in Erie urge you take extra precaution when stringing lights and decorating this holiday season.

According to The Consumer Product Safety Commission about 12,500 people are taken to the hospital for decoration related injuries each year.

Experts recommend taking it slow.

If you use candles for decorations, blow them out.  You can replace them with battery operated ones.

Second,if you have a live Christmas tree, water it.  And make sure your animals aren't drinking out of the base of the tree.  These trees are more likely to catch on fire.

Third, check lights and extension chords for frayed or exposed cables to avoid being electrocuted.

Experts also say it is important to ask for help, as the holidays can be stressful.
