SafeNet Aims to End Domestic Violence

watch video

November 28, 2012 - Thousands of domestic abuse calls are reported to Erie Police each year.

Experts say it's important to remember that if you're a victim of domestic abuse, there are ways you can get help.

Fifteen thousand to 16,000, or a third, of the police departments calls each year are domestic related.

There are several options to consider if you are a victim of domestic abuse.

Mental, physical, verbal and sexual abuse are all types of abuse that can be filed under a protection from abuse order.

Right here in Erie, there are organizations that help those who have been a part of domestic abuse

SafeNet is committed to ending domestic violence, utilizing a help line as well as shelter services.

"We see of the 800 or so victims I that apply to the courts each year for protection we handle about 250 of them," said Linda Lyons King, SafeNet Executive Director.

Everything discussed at SafeNet is confidential.

SafeNet can be contacted through the hotline number at 454-8161.
