Hometown Hero: George Smilo

watch video
George Smilo of Harborcreek is a veteran of the Korean War.
At 81, memories of the so-called "forgotten war" are still vivid... Including an orphaned Korean boy cared for by his squad.  George's pride over serving remains strong... Evidenced by the medals his friends had restored...
A founding member of the Erie county sportsman's league...George still likes to hunt and trap shoot.  He also still talks often of Korea ... Never forgetting the courage of his fellow soldiers...Those who did and did not come home.  Korean war veteran George Smilo... This week's hometown hero.
