Ebert Beeman's District Reacts to His Removal from Council

watch video

NOVEMBER 30, 2012- With Ebert Beeman behind bars and now off of Erie County Council, the community is speaking out.

Members from Beeman's district had mixed reactions to Beeman's removal.

They say Beeman had potential, but his poor decisions caught up to him and his removal from County Council was inevitable.

"The man is very crooked. He shouldn't have been on council," says Clare Humes.

Kevin Garr of Waterford says Beeman's poor decisions lead to this.

"Tough road he chose.  Every man for himself.  That was his choice to make his decision."

Erie County District Attorney Jack Daneri filed paperwork back on July 20th requesting Beeman's removal the same day Beeman was sentenced to prison.

Now, some community members say it wasn't possible for Beeman to complete a job from behind bars... and his credibility was gone once he was charged with the four counts of social security fraud.

"I really think he needed to be off. He isn't doing anything for anybody," says Nancie Humes.

"This case I did follow it a little. I think he should've been removed a long time ago," says Kevin Garr.

Others say Beeman's poor decision should be put in the past and he should get a second chance.

"Well, I don't know if he should've been removed, but I do give him a lot of credit for what he's doing," says John Hershberger.

Residents hope the remaining council members can now focus on moving forward.

Council now has 30 days to name a replacement.

This replacement must be a registered Republican from the 6th district.
