Mock Shooting Drill Training

December 14, 2012

Unfortunately in today's world, these kinds of school shooting events are not uncommon.

And anymore, it's important for schools to be ready for tragedies like this one today.

Over the past several months, some schools in and around our area have been preparing their students for the worst... And conducting mock shooting drills so they know what to do.

What seems like your typical day at school turns into a devastating tragedy.

But officials in Oil City and Mercyhurst University want their students to expect the unexpected.

That's why they have been organizing mock shooting drills over the past few months, because they want their students to know it's better to be safe than sorry.

One student in the Oil City mock shooting drills explains officials told them to lock the doors and shut off the lights.

Officials say you can't wait to negotiate with the shooter because generally the shooter knows what they're after.

Oil City Police explain how they would train their students if faced with this situation

And what also helps crews is a triage, which helps move a number of patients quickly. The colored mats designate severity.

Green is stable, yellow is moderate injuries and red tells crews the patient is critical.

Officials say the most important thing for them to do when faced with a school shooting is to react immediately

Change windows to solid doors in entry ways into school, etc..make it REALLY hard for someone to get in, by that time the Police and riot gear can get to the School's and take care of what needs to be done...Sell the glass to companies who need it to help fund the "New" Solid wood!!
