ESD Responds to CT Shooting

watch video

December 14, 2012 - The largest school district in Erie County responds to the horrible tragedy in Connecticut.

Whenever there is a national shooting, local district officials say they take a look at their own internal security measures.

The Erie School District has its own police department made up of fourteen officers.

Those officers work at the different schools in the district on a daily basis.

School officials say each school is equipped with buzzer entry doors with cameras, as well as a sign in system so every visitor to the school is documented.

The district has a more than 300 page crisis response book with information telling officials what to do in different emergency situations.

"We have a crisis response team and a school safety team that meets regularly," said Matthew Cummings, ESD communications. "Anytime something like this happens on a national level, obviously that's part of their decision making process as they review our policies and procedures and do those school security walk through."

And of course the district says its number one priority is the safety of the students at all of their schools.
