A Cleaner Presque Isle Bay Means No More Area Of Concern

watch video
12/17/12  It wasn't that long ago that Presque Isle Bay was so polluted that it was included on the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement Area Of Concern
But things have changed for the better.

The Area Of Concern, or AOC, was a label given to Presque Isle Bay back in January of 1991.
The reason was the bay was so polluted with contaminants from factories and runoff.

The Presque Isle Public Advisory Committee met Monday morning to further discuss delisting the bay as an Area Of Concern.

The committee voted last July, 13 to 7,  to recommend the bay be taken off the watch list.
DEP officials say the water quality in the bay has improved by leaps and bounds over the years and delisting the bay is a good idea.
