Give a Pet for a Present: Should You or Shouldn't You?
Experts it's important to really consider all the pros and cons before you decide to buy a pet for a present.
Officials from the Humane Society say buying a pet shouldn't be an impulse decision.
If you apply to adopt a pet at the Humane Society, they sit down with you to pair you with the right pet.
If you want to give one as a gift, it's recommended that you take that person into the adoption agency to make sure they want a pet.
Experts say you have to remember when you buy a pet, it's not just your responsibility for a week or two, but it's a ten to fifteen year commitment.
They have to be fed, taken to the vet, walked and shown affection.
"Animals are a lot of work and a lot of money," said Lisa Stiles, The Humane Society of NWPA. "Especially if you want to be a responsible pet owner, you have to take them to the vet yearly, monthly flee medications, some of the pets need grooming, so an animal is a life long financial commitment."
