The new face on Erie County Council is Edward T. DiMatteo Jr.

County Council's six active members unanimously chose DiMatteo at a noon meeting today.

DiMatteo, of Waterford, is a sales and housing consultant for Star Manufactured Homes, 8191 Peach St. He also coaches ninth grade boys basketball at Fort LeBoeuf High School.

DiMatteo ran for County Council in 2009 and lost. He will now represent council's 6th District, which includes most of southern Erie County.

He replaces Ebert Beeman, who is currently serving a one year and a day in Federal prison for social security fraud.

Beeman was removed from office by Judge Ernest Di Santis in the wake of his conviction and jail sentence.

DiMatteo will be sworn in this afternoon at 3pm in County Council Chambers.
