DECEMBER 24, 2012- St. Peter Cathedral in downtown Erie is ready for a Christmas celebration as officials expect more than 1200 people at this special midnight mass...

This will be the first Christmas mass celebrated by newly installed Bishop Lawrence Persico, and officials are thrilled.

"He looked it all over... He's excited... He's pumped... It's a thrill for him, but we'll miss Trautman as he's been here for years," says Msgr William Biebel.

Volunteers have been working for weeks to get St. Peter Cathedral ready for this occasion and Msgr William Biebel says seeing everyone together is rewarding....

"We invite them all here. Wonderful opportunity for us to come together...." says Msgr Biebel.

Cameras are setup at every angle of the cathedral as this year; midnight mass will be airing on JET 24 Action News and streaming online at YourErie.com.

"This year we are going to stream midnight mass on our website via YourErie.com, anyone can take it in and I think it's a real plus," says JET 24 ACTION NEWS General Manager Tim Dunst.

"It's a great blessing that it's online.  People no matter where they are and they will be in our prayers tonight," says Msgr Biebel.

Jet 24 Action News has been showing the midnight mass for 18 years... and general manager Tim Dunst says the community's gratitude has been overwhelming...

"We get note cards from people saying thanks... I wasn't able to get out and I really enjoyed taking midnight mass in, so nice partnership..."

If you miss out on midnight mass, you can check out Christmas Day Mass at St. Peter Cathedral at 6:30 a.m.... 8:30 a.m,.... And 11 a.m.

Msgr Biebel says 11 a.m. is most crowded so get there early.
