Crime Up In Erie Says FBI

In the 2006 Uniform Crime Report released Monday, the FBI reported that crime as a whole increased in Erie between 2005 and 2006. Violent crime rose to 554 counts, up from 472 counts in 2005, while murder decreased from 6 counts in 2005 to 2 counts in 2006. The other categories are: forcible rape, 75 in 2005, 69 in 2006; robbery, 200 in 2005, 275 in 2006; aggravated assault, 191 in 2005, 208 in 2006; property crime, 2,867 in 2005, 2,987 in 2006; burglary, 632 in 2005, 740 in 2006; larceny- theft, 2,129 in 2005, 2,106 in 2006; motor vehicle theft, 106 in 2005, 141 in 2006; and arson, 35 in 2005, 38 in 2006. Crime statistics arent just up in Erie, they are up nationwide. The FBI website states "Nationwide, violent crime in the U.S. increased 1.3 percent and property crime decreased 2.9 percent over 2005."
