WQLN Radio Celebrates The Big 4-0

watch video
It was Sunday, January 7th 1973 when engineer Bob Lindy, manager Dave Roland and WQLN President Bob Chitester threw the switch and WQLN radio was on the air.

That was 40 years ago. Back then WQLN radio had 4 area studios. One was at the current Summit Township site, the others were located at Edinboro State College, Mercyhurst College and the former Opportunities Industrial Center.

One of the first voices on the air was that of Rob Hoff, who now chairs the Psychology Department at Mercyhurst University. He says a lot has changed over the past 4 decades, including technology.
he remembers the days of reel to reel tape and cassettes. He says now with audio streaming, his weekend show he still does on WQLN Radio can be heard around the globe.

WQLN is planning an open house on Monday and the public is invited to attend
