Conneaut Lake Park
We've learned the electricity at Conneaut Lake Park will be shut off in coming days. The park owes more than 300 thousand dollars in back bills.
Park officials say the debt goes back eight years, and there is no way to pay what's owed. Conneaut Lake Park's effort to reopen is now being shorted-out for good.
George Deshner of Conneaut Lake Park says "we have 47 different electric accounts in the park it my understanding 45 of those will be shutoff."
"we have a responsibility to our company and ratepayers to exercise prudence."
Rud VanHorn - Penelec
Park officials say the electric debt owed to Penelec is around 300 thousand dollars and its been accumulated over the past 7 to 8 years.
"i had a payment plan on some of the accounts but when we didn't open and have money coming in you can't keep up with the payment plan. " George Deshner - Conneaut Lake Park
So as far as Penelec goes, it's appears to be the end of a long roller coaster ride.
"it's not a process of simply pulling a switch and turning things off we will have individual disconects on all the facilities out there." Rud VanHorn - Penelec
We're told Camperland and the Conneaut Lake Park Water Station will not be affected by the electric shut down. Officials say the battle to get Conneaut Lake Park open again now will be a very long and rough ride.
"not only are they going to have to pay the back debt we will be looking to secure any future debt moving forward to avoid this type of a problem." Rud VanHorn - Penelec
"its just one more set back that's going to be hard to overcome." George Deshner - Conneaut Lake Park
A benefit rock concert will go on this coming Saturday at the Fairway 12 Motel in Conneaut Lake. Money raised will go into an escrow account to benefit the park.
