Good Kid 1/07/13

A sophomore at Villa Maria Academy is deemed a standout citizen by her close friend and classmate.

Traci Teudhope introduces us to this week's Good Kid.

Maggie Rutkowski, 16 years old, said: "Caring, funny, nice trustworthy."

That's how friends describe 16 year old Sarah Beaver.

Maggie: "She's an active member in the church and a lot of times kids our age they don't really go to church, they think there's other stuff that really isn't important."

But Sarah's positive attributes don't stop there.

She gives back every chance she can.

For her 16th birthday, she asked friends to donate to the Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation rather than give her gifts.

Sarah Beaver said: "A lot of people and their families lost people to cancer, and I don't think that's really fair and trying to help them get rid of it."

Traci Teudhope: "Sarah and Maggie spend a lot of time together here at school, playing water polo, and they both recognize that being a good kid and giving back to community is very important."

Sarah was quite surprised by the Good Kid Award.

Being recognized by her friend makes it that much more special.

Sarah: "It's just such an honor, and I love Maggie for it. I had no idea that would happen."
