Crews Working to Repair Railroad Tracks

Clean up is underway for crews working hard after a train derailment four days ago. Some crews have been working over 14 hours a day to get the train back on the track.

The Road Master for the New York Pennsylvania Railroad tells us he had to call in every employee for a mess this big.

The train went off the tracks Friday afternoon prompting crews to bring in all of their manpower for this tedious job.

Road Master, Guy Harrison, tells us the rail actually spread apart, causing the wheels on the train to fall in.

Harrison tells us when the engineer noticed this, he stopped the train but it was too late, five cars had rolled over. There were three cars full of plastics, a car full of steel and a low hazmat car carrying isobutylene, described as a flammable gas.

Luckily crews say that car was in tact and there was no spillage.

Harrison says 600 feet of rail needs to be replaced. They weren't expecting any of this to happen, seeing as though they conduct weekly checkups on the tracks.

Harrison says the tracks were old but they weren't unsafe.

Luckily, no one was injured and in another two days, they'll have the tracks completed and trains will be running on the new track come Friday.
