January 15, 2013

To ensure that a neighborhood would be safe... Police had to make a drastic call as to what to do with a loose dog...

Neighbors in the 300 block of East 30th Street were worried about their safety... After encountering an aggressive pit-bull this morning...

Police got a phone call around 8 AM from a woman who lives in the 300 block of East 30th Street...

The caller explains to police that she and her kids couldn't get to their car this morning because of what police are saying was an aggressive pit-bull...

We're told the dog was fiercely growling and barking at the family... Making them afraid to walk outside...

The woman wasn't the owner of the dog... But police tell us the dog was a frequent of the neighborhood...

When they arrived on scene the dog was still extremely wound up... Prompting them to call Animal Enforcement.

Police say they tried to capture the pit-bull at first, but they then had to do what they can to protect the neighborhood.

We're told the dog was a constant problem in the neighborhood, police say the pit-bull had killed a few of the neighbors pets already...

We're told at this point the owner of the dog has not yet been identified.

I am extremely mad about what happened because I knew the dog that they shot. And she was not aggressive at all. All dogs bark at people they don't know. And she was barking more then usual because she was pregnant and she felt that her puppies were in danger so she thought she had to protect them. And the dog that the cops killed was not the dog that killed the cat. The only reason why the neighbor called the cops is because she is mad that a dog killed her cat not cats and she wanted payback. Even though she had the cops kill the wrong dog. That dog would never hurt anybody. Just because she was a pit-bull doesn't mean that she was aggressive. And i don't think that the cops or animal control did enough.

I really feel that both the police and the dog enforcement officer should be equip with a tranquilizer gun for incidents like this! The dog could have been tranquilized and then evaluated! Many times it is the owner that is at fault for a dogs behavior! In many cases a dog can be rehabilitated! Besides something may have spooked this dog! He may have been startled and was unable to calmed down especially as more people came to the scene! I think many animals are put down because they don't understand what is happening! As far as this dog being a nuisance in the neighborhood why was nothing done about it until today when this dog played with it's life! If this dog killed other neighbors pets why didn't they do something and contact someone! But dogs do kill cats. And cats kill birds. I hope that the city, county and state would equip their officers with tranquilizer guns it would save a lot of heart ache and deaths!
