January 15, 2013

A youth outreach program is coming to Erie's Strong Vincent High School.

The United Way of Erie County is pledging fifty thousand dollars a year for three years to the school.

The positive youth development program created at Penn State Erie, focuses on building students up and giving them the tools they need to succeed.

The Strong Vincent High students are getting involved, even coming up with an action plan for mentoring and increased support from school staff to help them persevere.

The program was originally developed for Union City Schools, where it successfully reduced the rates of teen pregnancy, drop-outs and truancy by more than half.
