Community Blood Bank Continues to See Shortages
The blood shortage that began last weekend continues as the
weather affects the number of people who come to donate. The bitter cold and
treacherous driving conditions have caused numerous donors to delay donating,
just when they are needed most.
There are barely enough donors coming in to meet current needs, but certainly
not enough to replenish the supply back to safe levels or to cover for the
weekend, when very few people donate but when hospitals typically need a lot of
blood. Everyone is urged to come and give blood before the weekend if possible,
although they'll still be needed next week.
"I know it's cold, but giving blood gives you a warm feeling inside,"
said Dan Desrochers, Director of Marketing at the Community Blood Bank.
"We'll treat you right once you get here!"
The Community Blood Bank is located at 26th and Peach and is open Monday to Friday
8am to 6pm and Saturday from 9am to 12:30pm.
No appointment is needed to save a life.
