ESD Superintendent Speaks at JES

January 30, 2013 - School districts across the country are facing financial challenges, including right here in Erie.

That was the topic of Erie School Superintendent Dr. Jay Badam's talk at the Jefferson Education Society today.

Dr. Badams talked about the balancing act of funding urban public education.

It's a tough situation that hits home for Badams, but he says the Erie School District is continuing to work towards financial stability.

"We had a $26 million deficit," Badams said. "Last year we had a $12 million deficit, this year we're in the neighborhood of $9.5 million. Problem is are the options for us to reduce our expense are dwindling so we're going to look to legislature and Harrisburg on how we solve this problem together."
