Hundreds Attend Gun Forum

watch video
1/30/13

A couple Hundred people packed into Bob's Gun Shop Wednesday night to hear more about proposed gun regulations.
The gathering was organized by Bob Mcdowell, owner of Bob's Gun Shop and gun owner Douglas Boldt. In attendance were Congressmen Mike Kelly and Glenn Thompson.

But it was the location of the meeting that had many people up in arms. Several people attended a meeting earlier in the day at the Booker T Washington Center hosted by faith, community and peace leaders.

Many were upset with the venue, saying they felt intimidated and outnumbered if they attended the meeting.  Many at the meeting said they disagreed with Representatives Kelly and Thompson attending the gun meeting

Comments

Sad someone (C.H.) would consider it 'nice' if an AK was unleashed at this gathering. This vitriol only comes from extremist and poses more of a danger to our society than the common street thug, or an unhinged person exacting some sort of revenge merely for the aspect of being born. Gun violence is not about the gun, but about the violence one has in them to perpetrate crimes against others. If all the guns were taken, would this stop the violence that some are still willing to commit?

If you are going to Attend a Gun Forum, then DO it someplace that is NOT one of Kelly's buddies!! And if it IS true that those Nuns didn't stand and RESPECT the Pledge of Allegiance, then why should anyone listen to them anymore? Our people have and ARE still dying so they can be free, and if they don't want to Pledge, they can LEAVE this Country!!

I would not call Bob's Gun Shop a friendly environment for all types... friendly is not even word that gets used there...but the Representatives have lots of constituents from all backgrounds and places they hang out and want to have meetings. I have attended several political/discussions with legislators that were in bars, churches, work places ect. Bobs Gun Shop falls in that category. If you want a meeting schedule your own or go to where one is scheduled.

I attended this meeting as well. Kurt K, well said! There was one moment during the meeting that I found completely disrespectful and appalling. This occurred during the pledge of allegiance. Everyone took part in the pledge, even handicap people stood up out of their wheelchairs and participated in the pledge EXCEPT FOR THE THREE NUNS!!!! They were there in protest of the event... They not only remained seated, they did not partake in pledging their allegiance to our flag and great country!!?? Is this what our kids are being taught?? As for you C.H., you really don't deserve a comment, but I just can't seem to refrain! Obviously you don't have a clue about firearms, legal issues with owning grenades, which by the way fall under what is called "prohibited offensive weapons", and you probably have never even touched one much less "practiced your aim"..you may find us law abiding, God loving, gun toting Americans "hillbilly lunatics", my suggestion for you is to go back under the rock you came from!! If you are ever in need of defending yourself or a loved one you can hold up your "peace" sign and plead with the criminal that you are on his/her side and "why cant we all just get along"!!!! God Bless America, God bless every man and and women who have defended(with guns), who are defending(with guns) this great country we live in!!

By the way, the Constitution has been changed 27 times. That's what an amendment is. The 18th Amendment made Prohibition law. The 21st eliminated it. This makes the uninformed, "It's in the Constitution!" argument flimsy at best. Blood is on your hands, gun nuts. Enjoy your tommy guns while you can.

I like hand grenades. I enjoy practicing my aim. I don't understand why they are not legal. The 2nd Amendment says I have the right to bear arms, so what's the difference between a grenade and an automatic weapon? Obviously, I'm being sarcastic. What a bunch of idiotic, hillbilly lunatics. It would have been nice if someone opened fire with an AK-47 at this [censored] festival.

What a horrendously biased account of this meeting. If Bob owned a local factory and invited Thompson and Kelly to a meeting about business regulations, would people feel threatened about attending? Would that be the focus of your report rather than the content of the actual event? I did attend this forum and can only say that those in opposition who feared to attend did themselves a disservice. Bob, Doug, Mike and Glenn all began their remarks by calling for civility and courtesy. Bob threatened to throw out anyone who got out of line no matter which side of the issue they held. The meeting was perfectly civil and while those who spoke were passionate they were unfailingly respectful and polite. Why don't the people who were so up in arms show up and actually listen to what everyone had to say? Maybe they're afraid that they'll find the gun owners they've demonized are actually decent and polite people who they just happen to disagree with. We're willing to talk to them, why are they so afraid to do the same?
