Two Charter Schools Continue to Fight for Approval

February 27th, 2013

Persistence. That's what the CEO of Erie Rise Leadership Academy says was needed when it came to convincing the Erie School Board to approve his charter school and he's hoping that persistence carries over to organizers who plan on opening two other charter schools in Erie.

Bishop Wayne Brock, CEO of Eagles Nest College Preparatory Charter School, and Gary Horton of Erie's New American's Friendship Charter School presented their plans for the charter schools to the Erie School Board but were turned down. Both say, "They'll be back!"

Bishop Dwayne Brock wants to secure the former Roosevelt School to transform into Eagle's Nest College Preparatory Charter School, while Gary Horton wants to open New his charter school focusing on teaching students English as a second language.

Gregory Myers knows the routine. Myers is CEO of Erie Rise Academy and went before the school board 4 times before they gave him the okay.
Myers says persistence is needed to sell these ideas.

Both Brock and Horton say their denial by the board only reinforces their commitment to open their schools.
