Driver Airlifted to Hospital After Slamming Into Tree

An accident this afternoon along Lay Road in Edinboro leaves one man in critical condition.

The driver of the Jeep was trapped in the vehicle for nearly a half hour after slamming into a tree.
The accident happened just after 4 this afternoon in the 11 thousand block of Lay Road in Edinboro.

The driver was headed north on Lay Road when he lost control, went off the road and into the tree.

The roads were icy at the time of the crash and may have contributed to the accident.
The Stat 7 Medvac helicopter was called to the scene to airlift the driver to UPMC Hamot.

No other information was available at this time.
State police are handling the investigation.
