Erie Insurance is making their mark in downtown Erie, buying more businesses in hopes of creating jobs

Almost two months after purchasing the Armory, Erie Insurance is continuing to buy more properties on East 6th Street recently acquiring the City Motel.

Erie Insurance is in expansive mode...scooping up the ten room City Motel for $510,000.

But this part of town is familiar to the company they've already acquired the armory and several houses that they've renovated and will turn into law and advertising firms.

EI spokeswoman Leah Knapp tells us that right now, they don't have any final plans for the site, but they will most likely clear the lot where the motel sits this summer.

Knapp says Erie Insurance has been investing in numerous downtown properties for decades and they want to take advantage of every opportunity to make Erie a safer and more attractive place to live.

Executive Director of the Housing Authority John Horan tells us downtown Erie is a big employment center and the more people you have working in the city, the better.
