Bullying Awareness Panel Discusses Growing Problem

Bullying in schools has become a major issue, and today local school district superintendents and principals came together in an attempt to tackle the problem.
A bullying awareness panel discussion was held earlier this afternoon at the Fortis Institute.
The panelists discussed the media responsibility, educational, parental, and legal perspectives on the topic of bullying.
Bullying has increased dramatically in schools over the years, and is something officials say needs to be dealt with.
A review of bullying statistics relevant to our local school districts were also revealed at the seminar.

I totally agree with what Donald S. said below...it's a shame that some have to endure what they do, just to go to school! There NEEDS to be stricter rules as to WHAT the bully gets in return for their bullying...not just a slap on the wrist so they can come back and do it or worse again! How about you send them to a reform school for a month or so? Or a Military Boot Camp with the Parent's paying the bill? Something has to be better than what is in place now!!

Bullying has increased because there's no real consequences for it. Any kid can sit there and pick on somebody for weeks and the worst they're gonna' get is a vacation from school. If the kid getting picked on retaliates and punches him in the mouth he/she gets suspended and assault charges pressed against them! You can sit there and demonize bullies all you want, make "Bully" the most derogatory term you can call a kid. The kid that's doing the bullying already thinks low of themselves and doesn't care. This whole kick of pressing charges every time a generally good kid has a slip of the tongue is just giving sociopaths free reign.
