March 7th, 2013

Just when you thought flu season had died down, more cases have been confirmed here in Erie County.

Char Berringer with the Erie County Health Department tells us, as of today, there were 949 cases reported this year; that's the highest number ever reported in Erie county.
Even though it's late in the flu season, the virus is still out there.

Over the last several weeks, Berringer tells us there's been about an average of 35 cases per week until last week, when we saw a spike of 53 reported cases.

The first spike occurred early in the season around December, with type A influenza, which is more severe.

Now, we're dealing with the second spike of influenza B, which isn't as powerful, but still should be taken seriously.
