March 14th, 2013

Charlie Lehr of Erie is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves.  From 1967 to the early 70's, Charlie served in Japan, the Philippines and Vietnam.  During his time in the reserves, he was called up to serve in Desert Storm. That sense of service continues when ever it's needed.

Sue Acks says: "Anybody, anywhere. He's just a real outgoing person, and if there was a job "ambassador" for Erie, he'd be the one I'd nominate for it."

Nowadays, this father and grandfather serves in the honor guard for parades, volunteers at church and even provides the Valentines flowers. And he sings in a group. His wife, Gail, belongs to the same group that nominated him. Navy veteran Charlie Lehr, this week's Hometown Hero.
