Erie County SheriffAn Erie County Sheriff Review Committee was formed months ago to study and make recommendations about the powers and responsibilities of the sheriff. Action News 24 learned Wednesday that the committee has finished its report and assessment. According to Erie County Sheriff Bob Merski, his office is still able to exercise all powers and duties tied to the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The report says the essential functions of local sheriffs deputies include security for judges and courtrooms, serving court, transporting inmates and mental health patients, as well as issuing county firearms licenses.
