Selecting a babysitter can be a difficult task for any parent, especially after recent tragedies involving negligent care takers. Just in the past few weeks, two young Waterford girls drown in a pond while in the care of a babysitter. More recently, five children, who may have been under babysitter supervision, were killed in a fire in Pittsburgh. Both tragic situations serve as reminders to all care takers that they need to take the job seriously. The Erie County Chapter of the American Red Cross offers a one-day babysitting training course. The class focuses on leadership, professionalism, basic care, safety and safe play, and first aid. The Red Cross is offering two courses per month throughout the summer. To sign up for the class, contact the Red Cross at 833-0942 extension 243.
