Gas Rally

watch video
Pennsylvania's House Republicans and local gas stations have been rallying all day against Governor Ed Rendell's proposed gas and oil tax.

GOP members are gathering signatures on petitions across the Commonwealth to stop the initiative from taking shape.

Taxing oil company profits is what Governor Ed Rendell wants to do to get money for Pennsylvania's public transit systems, as well as road and bridge work, but it's not hitting home with Republicans.

"I don't think anyone out there believes if we impose that tax that won't be passed on to the consumer. "  PA Rep. Curt Sonney
(R) 4th District

The proposed 6.17 percent tax on gas and oil is said to raise $760 million dollars a year for transportation funding.
