"Sounds of Summer" Benefit Concert

watch video
Sounds of SummerTwo area teens proved that thinking big pays off, and Saturday night it paid off for a good cause with a concert in Liberty Park. Two Collegiate Academy juniors had the idea for an under-21 benefit concert appropriately named, “Sounds of Summer,” but quickly learned not all things go according to plan. The event organizers, Daniel Wheeler and Jessica Yochim came up with the idea for a class project. The duo initially wanted to hold the event at Frontier Park with performances by fellow students. But a couple of weeks before the concert, school officials turned the benefit into a talent show. Jessica and Daniel didnt let that stop them and took sounds of summer up a few musical bars and got the whole community involved! 13 bands and many enthusiastic supporters showed up at Liberty Park where sounds of summer filled the air. This was a benefit concert where all donations go to Safenet, a local domestic violence shelter. Since event was free to the public, they received sponsorships like the Port Authority who offered them free use of the amphitheater and all the local bands donated their talent. Daniel and Jessica are pleased with the way things turned out. “People my age really connect to music and they really like local bands and their friends play and its going to a good cause." "If you set your mind to anything you can accomplish it as long as you keep pushing and pushing, no matter how many restrictions are put on you no matter how old you are." They plan to make “Sounds of Summer” and annual event!
