Presque Isle Downs Open Four Months
Presque Isle Downs officials have reflected on business over the past four months, made a few adjustments, and now they're preparing for the future.
As the summer tourism season begins here in Erie, officials are already seeing an increase in numbers over the last weekend. In addition to the 2,000 slot machines, the Downs is preparing to merge simulcast racing from Erie Downs which is currently located on upper Peach Street. The live action of thoroughbred racing is set to begin September 1st.
Officials say revenue is actually about 15% above where they had originally anticipated it would be at this point. The increase is mainly attributed to the numbers from the grand opening in February.
Casino officials say that one of the biggest accomplishments at the casino has been what they call the "halo effect" or how Presque Isle Downs business is trickling out to surrounding businesses.
