watch video
Army Tech. Sgt. Richard Sargent, an Erie native, will finally be laid rest in Girard this Tuesday.

Sargent served as an engineer in the Air Force during World War II. After a successful bombing run on April 16th, 1944, the B-24 that Sargent was on disappeared. He and his crew were never seen or heard from again.

In late 2001, the wreckage of a World War II bomber was found in New Guinea. After the recovery process was completed, Sargent's remains were identified and his relatives were notified of the discovery.

On Tuesday, Sargent will complete his journey home as his casket comes to rest at the Girard Cemetery.

A motorcade traveling on Route 20 will bring Sargent across the Ohio/Pennsylvania line at 7pm. The motorcade will then head to the Edder Funeral Home in Girard. Sargent will be buried with full military honors.
