Invest Erie Defends Spending

The group that wants to build a grocery store on Parade Street is defending its spending by opening its books. Invest Erie has received $466,000 in grants over the past four years and has used nearly all of that money. The group`s attorney says the City of Erie withheld $43,000 because of compliance issues. The remaining $423,000 was spent on salaries for Invest Erie, engineering, architectural fees and land acquisition. The biggest problem has been securing private investments to assure the City that Invest Erie can complete the project if it`s allowed to buy the land.
