Saddam Hussein Executed
The former Iraqi dictator convicted of killing 148 Shi`ite muslims nearly 25 years ago has been executed.
Saddam Hussein was put to death by hanging just after 10 pm eastern time friday...about 6 am Baghdad time.
Saddam was hanged in a secret location.
Witnesses say he was hooded was given a chance to pray with a Sunni muslim cleric.
Earlier Friday, Saddam`s lawyer filed a motion with a US appeals court to stop the execution, but to no avail.
Now, US troops are on high alert and bracing for the increased violence that Saddam loyalists have been threatening for months.
