Smoking Ban Signed into Law

A county-wide smoking ban has been signed into law. This morning, Erie County Executive, Mark DiVecchio, signed The Erie County Smokefree Air Act of 2006. If all goes as planned, officials say the smoking ban should go into effect by the end of February. Erie County Council does have the option of postponing the ban until May 1st - an idea DiVecchio supports. The reason is to watch how an Allegheny County judge handles a temporary injunction involving two Pittsburgh restaurant owners who have sued to stop a ban there.
