Local community organizers are celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior. The Bayfront Nato held a special ceremony this afternoon at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Center on Chestnut Street. They also held their seventeenth annual essay contest for local students. 888 essays were submitted this year. During the ``Tribute to Martin`` there were dances, speeches, and song. The event kicks off a week of King festivities in Erie. Sunday there will be a Gospel Extravaganza at Shiloh Baptist Church. Dr. King would have turned 78 on Monday.
