Hamot Medical Center is stepping up its fight to stop smokers. The idea is to ban smoking by all employees, patients and visitors. They also want their staff members to stop smoking on their breaks. Officials with Hamot Medical Center say the goal is to promote a healthy environment. They hope to make the entire hospital campus smoke free. The plan was developed by a group of about 35 Hamot employees working on the Tobacco-Free Task Force. They realize it will be a tough adjustment for everyone; however, they believe it is the hospital`s responsibility to promote healthy habits. The new policy is set to take effect November 15, 2007.
