WWIIMore than 60 years of wondering and waiting ended last night for one west county family. Airman Richard Sargent of Lake City went missing in April of 1944 after the aircraft he was in disappeared near New Guinea in the South Pacific. Since 2001, the U.S. Department of Defense has been examining World War II wreckage and remains found in the area. Yesterday they announced the remains of ten U.S. servicemen missing since World War II, including airman Sargent, have been identified. The remains of all ten soldiers will be returned to their families for a proper burial with full military honors.
