Governor Ed Rendell stopped by Erie on Wednesday to talk about health care reform. The Governor spoke to dozens of community leaders and residents about his Prescription for Pennsylvania. It's a plan that he says is urgently needed and would give access to affordable health care coverage, improve the quality of care Pennsylvanians receive and would bring health care costs under control for employers and employees. According to the Governor's office, there are nearly 767-thousand Pennsylvania adults without basic health care. That adds up to 7.6 billion dollars for unnecessary and avoidable health care costs paid for by Pennsylvania businesses consumers and taxpayers. Rendell says the current health care situation in Pennsylvania is creating a huge drag on our economy.
