The Lerta Program is set to expire later this year, but city officials may keep it going in a different way. Currently, Lerta offers residents and business owners ten years tax free for new construction in the city. Erie's Mayor, Joseph E. SInnot is suggesting targeting certain areas for the tax break, rather than continuing it as a city-wide initiative. The goal is to make sure the city generates as much tax revenue as possible, while continuing to spur development. The Mayor will present his entire plan for the Lerta Program to Erie City Council this week.
