Security was stepped up Friday in the Franklin School District after a Virginia-Tech like threat was found in a high school restroom Tuesday afternoon. An outside security agency was on hand keeping an eye on the high school, as well as other schools in the district. The security guards were equipped with hand-held metal detectors and conducted random searches. Backpacks are not being permitted in Franklin schools until further notice, and students are being required to empty their lockers at the end of each school day.
