A string of severe storms caused major problems throughout the region Tuesday night. Heavy rains and high winds, combined with lightning that could be seen for miles, caused widespread damage across the area. Severe thunderstorm warnings and even some tornado warnings were issued by the National Weather Service. The hardest hit areas were in parts of Crawford, Venango, and Mercer counties. Some of the heaviest damage is in the Tamaruck Lake area southeast of Meadville. Reports from there say that almost a hundred trees are down, some falling on homes. Many homes in the area are still without power. Crews are not sure yet when all power will be restored. Officials with Crawford County Emergency Services are urging people to be extra careful and avoid any obstructed roadways.
