Emergency responders from all over Erie converged on Central Tech High School Monday afternoon. Their mission was to deal with two mock gunmen who stormed the building. One of the shooters opened fire in the hallway, sending students running. The other intruder was involved in a stand-off, hostage situation. Although the incident was only a drill, police and other agencies including the Erie Fire Department, EmergyCare, and the Swat team treated the events as if they were real. With more and more school shootings happening across the nation, law enforcement and school officials say it is critical to be prepared. Those in charge of the drill say it went well, especially in the area of communication.
