Pennsylvania OxyContin Settlement

$19.5 million.  That's how much multiple states will share as a result of a settlement concerning deceptive marketing of the powerful drug OxyContin.

Attorney General Tom Corbett announced Tuesday that Pennsylvania was one of 26 states and the District of Columbia to reach the settlement with drug-maker Purdue-Pharma.

Claims were made that the company promoted the prescription drug for uses that haven't been approved by the FDA. Also,  sales representatives allegedly failed to properly disclose information about the potential abuse of the prescription drug.

Pennsylvania will receive $949,000 from the settlement to be used for future public protection and enforcement activities.
