Environmental Award
Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Kathleen McGinty stopped by Erie on Thursday. She was handing out the Governor's Award for excellence.The Award went to the Great Erie Industrial Development Corporation for its work in transforming a vacant industrial brown field into a job creating business park.
The business park was named after former Erie Mayor Joyce Savicchio who began transforming the blighted property into a business park during her administration.
Once the more than 60-thousand tires and tons of garbage were removed. The property was transformed into a business park and and addition to the tax rolls.
So far, one tenant has set up shop in the business park. Officials estimate additional tenants will create 240 jobs and generate more than 20 million dollars in additional private investments for land and capital improvement.
