breaking news
On Thursday, scientists sampled fish from Lake Erie, watching for signs of a deadly ebola-like virus.
Its being called a threat to all freshwater fish.
Scientists first found Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia in Great Lakes fish back in 2003.
There is a concern that the virus may break out starting this month because the lake water is at the right temperature for it to spread.
As of now, it is against the law to remove fish bait out of Lake Erie or use uncertified bait in ponds or streams.
You are also asked to watch for bleeding fish with bulging eyes, and bloated abdomens, which are signs of VHS.
The Sons of Lake Erie worry that a VHS epidemic would result in a massive fish kill.
There is no reason to panic for you though as the virus does not affect humans.
The fish carrying it are safe to handle and eat.
