Erie County Convention Center Authority Executive Director Casey Wells and Erie architect Ross Rectenwald unveiled plans for improvements to Tullio Arena and Jerry Uht Park. They say the plan could improve the atmosphere for Otters hockey and SeaWolves baseball games and draw more business to downtown Erie.
The plan has a $43 million price tag, but civic center officials say it is well worth the cost. Right now, the arena and park stand side-by-side, but if the proposed renovations become a reality the two venues could stand as one massive complex.
Some say that renovations are long overdue. Tullio Arena was built in 1983. The proposal adds a restaurant, a bar, premium seating, and suites to the civic center complex.
It also triples the number of ladies' restrooms and provides additional areas for vendors.
The planners say their proposals to fund the project require the help of the government. The proposal has been submitted to Erie political leaders.
