2007 "Common Sense Sand Summit"
Presque Isle Beaches need sand nourishment on an annual basis and as it turns out, nearby Conneaut, Ohio has too much sand, which is causing problems in Conneaut Harbor. So the question is, can the two areas help each other?
State officials in both Ohio and Pennsylvania have talked about trucking it or transporting sand on a barge from Conneaut Harbor to Presque Isle for years.
The problem we're learning seems to be with the federal government. The corps of engineers has had a project on the books for a number years and they are having trouble funding a feasibility study to get that project underway so they are looking into taking another approach.
Other approaches include, lobbying the federal government for money or trying to raise enough money to commission a private feasibility study.
