Iraq Homecoming

watch video
Thousands of men and women are currently overseas fighting for our freedom and Saturday, one local soldier came home from his tour in Iraq.

His family threw him a tear-filled reunion. Senior Airman Anthony James Velez was stationed at a medical base in Balad, Iraq since January.

He tried to come home early to surprise his family, but they caught wind of the idea and turned the tables on him instead.

Velez was a Pharmacy Technician in Balad and had the duty of sending wounded soldiers home. He says it was a very rewarding job.

This was the first time the 23-year-old was away from home for an extended period of time.

His family was happy Anthony came home safely and that they were able to give him a warm welcome. Anthony says he's excited to see green grass and the first thing he wants to eat is some Eli's wings.

He's scheduled to report back to Iraq next year.
